Hello all,

different post than normal.

My beloved cat, Salem, got scared and slipped her harness February 7th, 2023, at roughly 10:30 pm - 11 pm, in Pembroke, NC.

As of June 12th, Salem is still missing. I have updated her pictures here as well.

I have done every possible thing to locate her: shelter checks, drive-arounds, mail-out cards, posters around town, facebook/insta ads, Snapchat, Apartment emails, door-to-door, ground search, luring, etc. If you can think it then I have done it or tried to do it.

It also means that at this time I am struggling financially. Money is already tight and god forbid cost of living stop going up, especially as I live in the south which seems to be on fire recently with a lot of regressive laws and costs. On top of that, if you recall my truck from September that gave out on me, it has begun to again, sapping most of my money and leaving me high-and-dry.

Financially the world sucks and I need surgery soon most likely - this is not the first one, it is the fourth which is well overdue. Does anyone know Murphy’s Law? “Anything that can go wrong will.” Yeah, well, Murphy can bite me.

I am in a financial abyss, so any and all help is appreciated. Times are hard for everyone, and god this sucks, but I haven’t heard back from the other jobs I have been applying too and there is only so long that you can make it on a single job with rent and bills taking everything except a few dollars a month.

I’ve seen a few ~aesthetic~ photos of rock stacks in rivers recently and this is just a reminder that you are destroying habitat when you move rocks around in rivers and streams.

In addition to dragonfly nymphs, rocky river beds are home to lots of other larval invertebrates like damselflies, mayflies, water beetles, caddisflies, stoneflies, and a bunch of dipterans. Not to mention lots of fish and amphibians!

Plus large scale rock stacking can change the flow of a stream and lead to increased erosion.

Everything is something’s habitat. You might as well not go outside for fear of stepping on some larval beetle.

This is hugely missing the point. The idea is to enjoy what’s left of our natural spaces while having as little an impact as possible. It’s not difficult to avoid intentionally destroying habitat. I recommend looking into the Leave No Trace principle which is very important for conservation. Cynicism doesn’t help anything.

A few rock stacks here and there wouldn’t have much of an impact alone. But in parks that see thousands or even millions of visitors each year, when you have people like you saying, “sure, literal scientists and park rangers are telling me not to do this, but surely that doesn’t apply to ME,” the effect is huge. Please attempt to see the bigger picture. You are not so special that YOU get to ignore the rules and continue intentionally destroying habitat even after you’ve been told it’s harmful.

I want more villains who care about their henchmen. I wanna see the bad guy fly into a rage because the hero hurt their very favorite bungling goon and it was nearly his birthday.

“how dare you fail me you miserable oafs!!” should be retired. “How DARE they bully my adorable oafs!!!” should be industry standard.

Underlings having to hold back their dark lord like an overprotective parent because they don’t really want a famous hero to get outright murdered just on their behalf.

I had to draw something

I don’t want to go ‘realism in fiction’ bc we all know how much of a dogwhistle that can be. But it really always bothers me that this isn’t the norm. Like, how the fuck do all these dark lords and evil empresses and what not keep any minions or lieutenants or what not around?

Literally, what is stopping them from just walking to Hero and going ‘I surrender, get me the hell away from this asshole!’ when most Heros will immediately turn them in a redemption story and all.

Like, how they hell do the villains keep anyone working for them without a solid health plan, 401K, and recreational facilities? Isn’t that the minimum. Has no one actually read Machiavelli?

Indeed; one of my least favorite tropes is the whole “I don’t need you anymore” bit, where a villain backstabs a fellow villain working beneath them, which inevitably ends up with the betrayed villain aiding the heroes in order to spite the big bad.

Luckily, I can just draw something that cuts that bullshit out!

I slept in and just woke up, so here’s what I’ve been able to figure out while sipping coffee:

  • Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
  • The official branding is that a tweet is now called “an X”, for which there are too many jokes to make.
  • The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn’t reclaim the username first.
  • The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
  • Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name “X” in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for “X” in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
  • The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term “X Japan” is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
  • Elon had workers taking down the “Twitter” name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says “er”.
  • He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as “Xvideo”. Nobody tell him.

This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.

Edit to add further developments:

  • Yes, this is all real. Check the notes and people have pictures. I understand the skepticism because it feels like a joke, but to the best of my knowledge, everything in the above is accurate.
  • Microsoft also owns the trademark on X for chatting and gaming because, y'know, X-box.
  • The logo came from a random podcaster who tweeted it at Musk.
  • The act of sending a tweet is now known as “Xeet”. They even added a guide for how to Xeet.
  • The branding change is inconsistent. Some icons have changed, some have not, and the words “tweet” and “Twitter” are still all over the place on the site.
  • TweetDeck is currently unaffected and I hope it’s because they forgot that it exists again. The complete negligence toward that tool and just leaving it the hell alone is the only thing that makes the site usable (and some of us are stuck on there for work).
  • This is likely because Musk was forced out of PayPal due to a failed credit line project and because he wanted to rename the site to “X-Paypal” and eventually just to “X”.
  • This became a big deal behind the scenes as Musk paid over $1 million for the domain X.com and wanted to rebrand the company that already had the brand awareness people were using it as a verb to “pay online” (as in “I’ll paypal you the money”)
  • X.com is not currently owned by Musk. It is held by a domain registrar (I believe GoDaddy but I’m not entirely sure). Meaning as long as he’s hung onto this idea of making X Corp a thing, he couldn’t be arsed to pay the $15/year domain renewal.
  • Bloomberg estimates the rebranding wiped between $4 to $20 billion from the valuation of Twitter due to the loss of brand awareness.
  • The company was already worth less than half of the $44 billion Musk paid for it in the first place, meaning this may end up a worse deal than when Yahoo bought Tumblr.
  • One estimation (though this is with a grain of salt) said that Twitter is three months from defaulting on its loans taken out to buy the site. Those loans were secured with Tesla stock. Meaning the bank will seize that stock and, since it won’t be enough to pay the debt (since it’s worth around 50-75% of what it was at the time of the loan), they can start seizing personal assets of Elon Musk including the Twitter company itself and his interest in SpaceX.
  • Sesame Street’s official accounts mocked the rebranding.

When Statler and Waldorf go after you for your life choices, you seriously need to sit down and have a rethink.
